Best Vacuum for Laminate Floors
If you are looking to buy a vacuum cleaner for laminate floors, Miele is a brand you’ve most likely come across over and over. It definitely deserves a look when picking Best Vacuum for Laminate Floors. Miele is arguable the leading manufacturer of both canister vacuums and uprights.
Because we’ve already labeled the Miele Compact C1 Pure Suction Canister Vacuum Cleaner “The Best Hardwood Floor Vacuum Cleaner,” we won’t babble about its suction other than to say that it’s fantastic. And it goes without saying that any vacuum that delivers for hardwood floors also delivers for laminate floors. Both flooring types rely completely on high suction power. That’s because a brush designed to pull out dirt buried inside fibers can seriously scratch a hardwood or laminate surface.
But not everyone wants a canister. So what is the best stick/upright vacuum for laminate floors?
Let’s start with the Miele Swing H1 Quickstep PowerLine stick vacuum cleaner.
When it comes to suction, Miele is generally king. Unfortunately, laminated floor owners won’t be happy with the Quickstep’s cleaning power. In our testing, we found it did an okay job cleaning low-pile carpets. But it had a difficult time with smooth floors—especially those covered with pet hair. Our rating of 7 on a scale of 1 to 10 reflects that the Quickstep is priced under $200 and is lightweight at just 7 pounds. It also ships with HEPA filtration and is great for quick pickups and small cleaning jobs. And it’s a Miele. If you’re on a budget, this is a vacuum to consider. And that’s why we mention it. But you’re better off spending extra on a more powerful machine if you have laminated floors.
Now here comes the Sebo Felix.
Sebo may not be a name you are familiar with, but they make some of the best vacuum cleaners we’ve tested.
The Felix is not a stick vacuum like the Quickstep but more a lightweight upright vacuum that weights only twice as much as the Quickstep. At just 15 pounds, it’s noticeably lighter than a traditional upright, which weights in at around 22 pounds. So we’ll call the Felix a stick-upright.
Anyway, the German-made Felix is quite a step up from the Quickstep in both performance and price. The design of the combination carpet/smooth brush gives you the flexibility to steer in all directions—whatever the situation calls for. No more back and forth, back and forth. And when you need to clean hard to reach places, like under the dinning room table, under the den desk, or even under the bed, the Felix lays flat to the floor.
Combine this swivel neck technology with manual height adjustments, HEPA filtration, a large .92-gallon bag, and the Felix offers extreme versatility from floor to ceiling. We recommend it for all surface floors from hardwood and laminated to low- and high-pile carpets. Throw in an array of standard accessories and the Felix makes cleaning upholstery, drapes, blinds and much more a breeze. It is simple to turn the brush off to avoid scarring laminate floors. We also like that a light comes on if you set the brush to the wrong height.
The Felix ships with an upholstery tool, floor brush, and crevice tool. And in addition to a brush on/off switch for laminate floors, the Felix features suction control and manual carpet height adjustments.
But perhaps the best upright vacuum for laminate floors is the Sebo Automatic X5. Like the Felix, the Automatic X5 comes packed with more than its share of innovations. And like all Sebo vacuums, the Automatic X5 was designed to stand the test of time.
…the Sebo Automatic X5 is an amazing machine that has some serious suction going on.
At the heart of the Automatic X5 is a 1300-watt German-made motor that will perform for up to 20 years. The only other vacuum than can claim such a strong commitment to quality, reliability and durability is Miele. Miele motors are 1200 watts.
While this vacuum with its extra wide 14.5-inch cleaning path does an extraordinary job with laminate floors, what we really like about it is that it also cleans the air we breathe. With HEPA filtration, the Automatic X5 removes not only dirt but also an incredible 99.9% of particles down to 0.3 microns. As you know, these microscopic pests can cause allergy and asthma attacks.
Like other Sebo vacuums, the Automatic X5 is tightly sealed and tested at the factory in Germany under operating conditions to ensure everything collected, including allergens, is trapped inside its 1.4-gallon bag (which is very big). This provides hospital-grade protection at home.
With a HEPA filter and sealed construction, and incredible suction power (this vacuum takes a ruthless approach to pet hair), the Automatic X5 outperforms most competitive brand upright vacuums for laminated floors. While we would have liked Sebo to have incorporated a brush on/off switch, we found the Automatic X5 automatically and easily adjusts for laminated floors. And we really like that you can lower the handle to the floor for reaching tricky spaces.
In our view, the Sebo Automatic X5 is an amazing machine that has some serious suction going on. That makes it perfect for laminated floors.
